The Mission of Lakota East High School:

We, the staff of Lakota East High School, will work cooperatively with all segments of our community to prepare students to be responsible and accountable citizens within the school, the community, and the world.

Attendance, Reporting an Absence

Notify the school as early as possible to report your child's absence, late arrival or early dismissal. Attendance can only be communicated by a parent or guardian, regardless of the student's age.

Absences

To report an absence, please provide your name, the student's name, your relationship to the student and the reason for the student's absence. Please submit documentation to the front office to excuse your student’s absence.

Students must attend school for four hours and 31 minutes. Any amount of time less than that will count as a full day of absence. For example, if you arrive after 8:05 a.m. (and up through 12:35 p.m.), it is considered a tardy. If you arrive after 12:36, it is considered a full day of absence.

Early Dismissals

To report early dismissals, please provide your name, the student's name, your relationship to the student and the reason for the student's early dismissal.

Please submit documentation to the front office to excuse your student’s early dismissal.
Early dismissal students need to leave through the front office and sign out.
- At Freshman Campus, parents DO need to come into the office to release their student.
- At Main Campus, parents DO NOT need to come into the office to release their student.
If you leave before 10:09 a.m., it is considered a full day of absence. If you leave after 10:10 a.m., it is considered an early leave (or tardy).
Students are allowed four early dismissals per quarter.

Late Arrivals

Please submit documentation to the front office to excuse your student's late arrival. Students are allowed four tardies per quarter.

College Visits

Automated Attendance Calls

Lakota uses ParentSquare to alert parents/guardians of any child’s unreported absence from school. This automated system helps expedite our daily process for absence notifications and uses the same parent/guardian phone number and email address provided through FinalForms (viewable in Home Access Center or ParentSquare).

Attendance notices are sent via email and text (if a mobile number is available); a phone call or voicemail will be delivered ONLY if a text message is undeliverable. Attendance notices are also sent as urgent alerts, meaning it will override any parent/guardian's decision to opt out of school or district messages.

If your child is absent or going to be tardy from school for any reason, you must notify the school by 8:00 a.m. (freshman campus) or 8:30 a.m. (main campus). If your child is marked absent and you have not reported the absence by this time, you will receive an attendance notice around 9 a.m. (freshman campus) or 10 a.m. (main campus). To respond with the absence reason, you will need to call the main office or log into and respond within ParentSquare. Failure to report the reason will result in an unexcused absence.

Excessive Absences or Tardies

A parent will be notified by email or phone once a student has reached the maximum number of tardies and absences. After a student has accumulated 12 absences per year (excluding those verified by a doctor’s note) a physicians note will be required for an excused absence. Only exceptions are by an administrator or a completed excused absence form which is located in the front office.
