Rich Schmaltz and John Severns - room 250

The Academic Quiz Team competes in with nine other GMC Conference schools in quiz bowl events. Quiz bowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, sports, and popular culture. We will have a season, even if we only scrimmage against ourselves!

Emily Edwards - 

Art club is for all grades 9-12. Art Club is focused around making arts and crafts that you can keep as well as building a community of people that enjoy making art.  We learn different crafts/skills each meeting. Students who enjoy making art, talking about art or being around artsy people are welcome! Please check out our Twitter or Instagram @LEHSartclub to see upcoming dates and activities.

Zach Robinson - 

AAA, short for Asian American Association, is a student run club that focuses on the various cultures of many different Asian countries. There will be diverse Asian cuisines at the meetings as you learn about Asian culture! This club is open to anyone who is interested and wants to learn about Asian cultures at Lakota East!

Meetings will be once a month on Thursdays in room 115.

Jessica Garrett  - 

American Sign Language Club is a student led club for anyone interested in learning ASL or more about Deaf culture.  WE work on service projects, play games, make crafts and have snacks.

Meetings will be held twice a month on Thursdays in room 225.

Alijah Vaught - 

Black Student Union is for all grades 9-12 where we learn about black history and experiences through discussions, educational talks, and events. All students are welcome no matter their race as this is an educational opportunity for all. Please check out our Instagram @lehsbsu to see upcoming dates and activities.

Dedicated to promoting and recording school events and sports through live broadcasts, promotional videos, and photography.

The East Chess Team will hold an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 4th at 3:10 PM in room 233.   So if you enjoy Chess or simply want to learn, please join us!

East Chess will hold practices on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:10 to 4:15 PM in room 233 until December

Bradley Warren - 

Civic Leaders of America (CLA) is a nonpartisan debate club with a mission to debate real issues and fight political apathy. CLA encourages students from all political backgrounds to participate in democracy outside of the classroom by engaging in politics and learning from their peers.  At CLA's core it unites the people, ignites their ambition and imagination, and provides students' knowledge on topics and situations that they will encounter beyond school grounds making it an important and impactful experience in a hawk’s career.  

Meetings will be held every Friday in room 228.

Leslie Slaven - 

The Computer Science Club (CompSci Club) is a chapter of INTERalliance, a local nonprofit that aims to inspire and assist young talent in pursuing an IT career in Greater Cincinnati. In this club, we would participate in fun competitions hosted by INTERalliance, develop skills for IT-related internships, and help students with their resumes and LinkedIn.

Meetings will be held once a week on Mondays in room 287.

John Severns -

A fantasy role - playing game where everyone works together to create the magic.

Meetings will be held weekly on Thursdays in room 268.

First meeting will be held August 28th.

East Mock Trial teams serve in an extracurricular capacity that features evening meetings and extensive work with professional attorneys toward the "trying" and "solving" of a case provided to all mock trial participants in the state. Competing schools carry attorneys who study case law and build briefs while witnesses practice parts and build characterizations connected to the case materials. 

Amy Florence - 

Economics club supports students who are interested in, have taken, or are currently taking economics.

Meetings will be held on selected Mondays in room 124.

Ed Matlack -

Engineering Club supports working on the Technology Student Association competitions.

Meetings will take place weekly on Mondays in room 284.

Lisa James - 

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is a student led club that encourages athletes to grow in their faith and reach their God-given potential within and beyond sport. We hold bible studies and discussions every other week, as well as other events throughout the year designed to create a Christ-centered community of athletes. 

Meetings will be held once a week on Fridays in room 200.

Jamie Rahe - 

Fly Free is a mental health awareness club that works to help others fly free of negativity and stigma in our school and community.

First meeting will be September 17th in room 280.

Tiffany Ashley -

French Club is a cultural look into French speaking cultures through food, games, and activities.

Meetings will be held once a month on alternating Wednesdays and Thursdays in room 227.

Kate Foldy - 

This club is a gardening service for the Lakota Community. The goal is to grow flowers, provide fresh vegetables for members of the Lakota Community.

Meetings will be held once a month on Mondays in room 226.

GSA is a student-run club that brings together LGBTQ and straight students to provide a safe place to support each other and create a platform to fight for racial, gender, LGBTQ, and economic justice.

Annie Wesner and Joseph Murray - 

Hawk Ambassadors is a student group that works to make all Lakota East students feel welcome and helps them engage.  Ambassadors work with new, current and future Hawks to help Lakota East feel like home.

Hawk Ambassadors apply in the Spring for the following school year. 

Meetings will be held twice a month on Thursdays during Hawktime.

Josh Patrick - 

In partnership with the Brave and Bold Kids Organization, Hawks Against Cancer works to provide care packages for families of pediatric cancer patients staying in apartments as they receive proton therapy treatment. The club will raise funds, make bracelets and write letters to these children to help make their day brighter.

This club will organize the Relay for Life event.  This event is dedicated to helping communities attack cancer. Through funds donated, time given, and awareness raised, our students are teaming up to make a difference. When we rally together in the fight against cancer, we can accomplish anything!

Hannah Huseman -

Hope & Strength is a student-led suicide prevention group. Hope & Strength members were peer-nominated at the freshman level and remain in the club throughout their high school career. Students are trained in QPR techniques and after-hours protocols to respond when they see someone in need.  Hope & Strength also has a mission of spreading positivity in the school and community as well as breaking stigmas surrounding mental health struggles. 

Meetings will be held twice a month on Wednesdays during Hawktime in room 264.

Jim Williams - 

HOSA’s mission is to empower members to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration, and experience.   Membership is available for middle school, high school, postsecondary, and collegiate students with an interest in health and medical careers.   

As a student member of HOSA, you will learn about the health professions, enhance your teamwork skills, and develop your leadership skills. HOSA is truly student-led, that means you will elect student officers for your chapter, conduct meetings, and make decisions with your officer team. Your decision to pursue a career in the health professions is an admirable one.

Meetings will be held twice a month on Mondays in room 282.

Nikki Drew -

Hosa is a student run organization for students interested in pursuing career in the allied health field.  The students volunteer, observe, gain internship/mentoring opportunities in the medical field. Students meet bimonthly and build community with students that have similar interest. 

Hosa students can choose to compete in regional, state, and national competitions.  They can choose individual, team, leadership, teamwork events, as well as specific future career categories.  Students must be enrolled in a Butler tech course with Mr. Williams, Mrs. Duff, or Coach Drew. 

HOSA will meet twice a month on Mondays in room 285.

Sally Barker and Susanne Linder -

Each year, the junior class plans the Junior/Senior Prom. This club provides students with leadership opportunities, organizational and event planning skills!

Meetings will be held twice a month on Tuesdays in room 107.

Joseph Walsh - 

Both of knitting and crocheting are fairly easy to learn. You'll start with basic stitches, learn to master them, and build from there. As with anything worth doing, once you gain a bit of knowledge and motor control of the skills needed, the rewards are amazing!

Meetings will be held twice on month on Thursdays in room 282.

Amy Elifrits - 

Current and former Latin students are invited to monthly meetings. We have snacks, crafts, games, and service projects.

Meetings will be held the second Tuesday of the month in room 224.

David Honhart - 

Leaders for Literacy is a book club that aims to promote and encourage reading across the Lakota district to elementary/junior high/high school students. Reading can be fun!

Meetings will be held every Thursday in room 128.

Sarah Dennis-Miller - 

Letters for Rose is focused on bringing joy to the community through creating personalized letters and cards for those in nursing homes that are not surrounded by their families and friends.

Meetings will be held twice a month on Tuesdays in room 126.

Mark Folta - 

The LEAF club was established by 4 students from the class of 2015 who wanted to create a student forum to discuss environmental concerns and actively do a few things within their power to bring about change to better the environment.  LEAF stands for Lakota Environmental Advocates Forum.  The LEAF club has planted over 40 trees in our reforestation area as well as numerous other activities.  One of LEAF clubs motto is “Make A Difference”

Jim Williams- 

Muslim Student Association is a club that is islamicly based and focuses on providing engaging activities that teach islamic values in a positive and welcoming environment. 

Meetings will be held on Mondays twice a month in room 283.

Audrey Clark - 

Mu Alpha Theta is the United States mathematics honor society for high school and two-year college students. In June 2015, it served over 108,000 student members in over 2200 chapters in the United States and in 20 foreign countries.

Meetings will be held once a month on Tuesdays in room 216.

Mu Alpha Theta also provides math tutoring after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

First meeting will be September 23.

Liz Gosky and Debbie Gerstner -

The Lakota chapter of National Honor Society (NHS) is open for students upon completion of their fifth or sixth semester of high school. NHS is a nationwide organization for high school students in the United States and outlying territories, which consists of many chapters in high schools. Selection is based on four criteria: scholarship (academic achievement), leadership, service, and character. The National Honor Society requires some sort of service to the community, school, or other organizations. The time spent working on these projects contributes towards the monthly service hour requirement.  Applications are sent to students with a 3.500 or higher cumulative GPA. The NHS faculty council makes final selection of members. Membership from another NHS chapter is accepted, but all Lakota East’s criteria must be met.

NHS will meet once a month on Thursdays in room 200.

Joe Murray - 

Our goal is to spread knowledge about different cultures and customs through presentations, snacks and games.

Meetings will be held once a month on Thursdays in room 202.

The first meeting will be September 18.

Liz Gosky - 

Science Olympiad is a national competition organization where students select events from various scientific fields that interest them. Whether you want to compete on things you’re learning in school or pursue other scientific interests, there’s an event for you. Science Olympiad has many different events and is organized into three categories to succeed: Study, Build, and Lab, so you can be prepared to compete against people across the state and nation.

Represent Lakota East with your friends in the events of your choosing. 

Meetings will be held twice a month on Tuesdays in room 270 (and a few Thursdays in September in room 264)

Nichole Bruce and Kayley Shafner - 

A committee of Seniors who are interested in planning Senior Sunrise, Senior Sunset, Senior Car Show, Senior Awards, and Homecoming and various other senior events throughout the year.

Meetings will be held monthly on Wednesdays in room 219.

First meeting will be held on September 3rd.

Joe Murray - 

Lakota East's Sci Fyi Realm plays games, watches movies and have debates. Their themed events will be worth attending!

Meetings will be every Thursday in room 202.

Annie Cantrell - 

The Spanish Club is an organization that enriches knowledge of the Hispanic Culture on our campus.  Another purpose of this organization is to become a candidate for the “Rosa Montero” chapter of the "Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica" for high achievement in Spanish.

All Spanish Classes levels I-AP are welcome, as well as Spanish speaking students who are not necessarily in a class.

The Spanish Club provides students with an opportunity to speak Spanish in a low-pressure environment. We eat food, do cultural activities, and have a lot of fun.

Meetings will be held once a month in room 230.

Amy Mahaffey  - 

Spark is the journalistic monthly publication and electronic website produced by the Journalism I, II, III-Honors, and College Credit Plus J-students at East on a co-curricular basis. The students research stories, interview sources, take photos, design layouts, develop artistic graphics, and construct the publication and the website. Students also handle the business aspects of the $20,000 budget, which is totally student-driven and managed.

Journalism students travel to state and national conventions where they interact with students from other schools and professional media experts. Spark is a perennial national award-winning program, with students earning awards and scholarships yearly. Students must be enrolled in a journalism class to be featured in the any of the media venues.

Join the Speech & Debate Team and sharpen your voice, mind, and confidence! From competitive debates, delivering strong speeches, and activities you’ll learn to think on your feet, write convincing arguments, and be a great speaker. 

Whether you’re competing for a gold medal or just want to become a better  speaker, the Speech and Debate team offers a supportive environment where everyone’s voice matters.

Dan Wallace & Dustin Horter - 

The Student Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) is a dedicated group of coach selected team leaders committed to building leadership traits, school pride, positive promotion of East Athletics, and more spirited school culture The East Way. SALT serves as a voice for student-athletes, empowering them to shape their own experiences both on and off the field.

Members of SALT lead by example, promoting sportsmanship, unity, and school pride while coming together to support all athletic programs through high-energy attendance of other team's events and positive peer leadership. The admin team, along with the help of the student athletes, organizes and leads major initiatives such as alumni and coach speaker events, community outreach, social media campaigns, etc. helping to connect past and present generations of athletes.

SALT members also take ownership of major milestone events, including the planning and execution of Signing Day celebrations and the End-of-Year Athletics Banquet — giving athletes a chance to recognize each other and celebrate their journey together.

Through mentorship, visibility, and voice, SALT is more than a leadership group — it’s a movement to uplift and inspire the entire East athletic community.

Meetings will be held during Hawktime on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the gym.

Amy Naylor -

Student Government Association (SGA) is a student-led organization that plans a number of events and fundraisers throughout the year-most notably, Homecoming, Canned Food Drives, Adopt-A-Child, Hoxworth Blood Drive, Community Outreach Week and more.  Our goal is to boost student morale and give back to the community. 

Meetings will be held once a month on Mondays in room 112

Our goal is to connect students to veteran’s organizations in the community to support, develop and promote veterans and military awareness.  We host a Veterans Day program at East, hold fundraisers, trips to Welcome Home our Veterans from Honor Flight, host speakers, walk in the Memorial Day Parade and lots more!

Meetings will be held on twice a month on Wednesdays during Hawktime in room 202.

Shannon Duff - 

This Volunteer Club gives students an opportunity to serve the community.

Meetings will be held twice a month on Tuesdays in room 187.

Amy Florence - 

Taking name from Wall Street New York, the Wall Street Club gives students a unique chance to learn and practice the skills used by real stock traders. Members will gain insights through student-led lessons and guest speakers, then put their knowledge to the test through paper trading -investing virtual/fake money in the real stock market.

Meetings will start in January and will be twice a month on Fridays in room 124.

First meeting will be January 9th.

Stuart Maine - 

The main goal is to inspire and empower students to make connections, get involved in their community and to prepare for a future careers. Learning people skills, learning to network and learn about different professions

Meetings will be held once a month  on Tuesdays in room 246.

Jen Circello - 

This club is to support and recruit more women who choose to go into cybersecurity.

Meetings will alternate between Lakota East and Lakota West on Thursdays in room 288.

Todd Hummer - 

For any women who is interested or enjoys STEM or medical topics. We meet and have mini competitions and projects while also working on a yearlong project of our choice. We have snack at every meeting, and have fun all year long!

Meetings will be twice a month on Wednesdays in room 290.

Erin Schneider - 

This is the student yearbook at Lakota East High School and is put together by students and the advisor.  Learn about editing, copy, caption writing, cover design, and advertising design. Sales start at the beginning of the school year. 

Meetings will be held during Hawktime on Wednesdays  and Thursdays in room 114.
