East Artists Bring Home National Awards!

The Lakota East Art Department is pleased to announce that Lauren Wilson and Mackenzie Robinnete have earned National Silver Medals in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2017. Lauren and Mackenzie have been identified by panels of creative professionals as the most talented young artists in the nation. This year, more than 330,000 works of art and writing were submitted. Only the top 1% were recognized at the national level.

Career Readiness Academy Holds Mock Interview Day

A big shout out to all the mock interview volunteers and students who participated in Mock Interview Day. All Academy students had the opportunity to interview with one of the nine mock interview volunteers. Each student received feedback about their interview as well. The interview volunteers consisted of representatives from Lakota, Addeco Staffing, Panera, Great American Cookie company, Jack-N-Box, and the Army.

CP Physics Students Showcase Their Creativity

Students in Craig Gleason's CP Physics Classes recently showcased their creativity by creating Rube Goldberg Machines. According to Wikipedia, a Rube Goldberg machine is a deliberately complex contraption in which a series of devices that perform simple tasks are linked together to produce a domino effect in which activating one device triggers the next device in the sequence.

Theater Students Master Shakespeare from an Expert

The Lakota East Science Olympiad team recently competed in the SW Ohio Regional tournament. Besting perennial powerhouses such as Walnut Hills, Wyoming, Sycamore and St X, the Lakota East team finished second and received an invitation to advance to the state tournament April 1! Rotary 4-Way Speech Contest

Lakota East recently swept the local try-outs for the Rotary 4-Way Speech Competition leading to all 4 finalists being represented by Thunderhawks. Congratulations to Sarah Aftab, Dante Eads, Nick Wade and Evan Yablonsky on the delivery of their outstanding speeches at the West Chester/Liberty Rotary Meeting on Friday, February 24. Dante Eads was crowned the winner and received a $300 award. Both Dante and Nick Wade have qualified for the regional finals to be held in early March at Wright State University. Good Luck to Dante and Nick. Special thanks to the West Chester/Liberty Rotary Club, Rotarian Steve Silverberg and Lakota East Speech Teacher Dave Honhart for their support of this outstanding program.

Hawks Drive to Stay Alive

Special thanks to Senior Sarah Strack and her Mom, Kathy Strack for an oustanding Distracted Driving week at Lakota East. Sarah organized activities for the entire week focused on keeping our Thunderhawks safe! The most powerful moments of the week were during the student/parent presentations when Sarah and Kathy shared their personal story regarding the loss of Sarah's Uncle and Kathy's Brother to a automobile accident caused by a distracted driver. Our Thunderhawks showed their commitment to avoid distracted driving by signing the banner now hanging on Main Street.

Tooday at Lakota East, we will kick-off a critically important weeklong campaign targeting our student drivers. "Hawks Drive To Stay Alive" is spearheaded by Lakota East Senior Sarah Strack. Sarah, and her family, have faced unbelievable tragedy due to a distracted driver. It is our goal this week to help our student's understand how dangerous distracted driving can be for everyone and how they can actively work to prevent this devastation.
