Practice ACT Offered at Lakota East!
11/27/2017
Lakota East and Huntington Learning Center are offering an ACT Practice Test (with essay) at Lakota East Main Campus on Saturday, January 13, 2018. Testing will begin at 8:00am in Room 200 at Lakota East. Students should arrive by 7:30am to complete the sign-in process prior to the test beginning. The test will take approximately 4 hours to complete. The cost of the test is $40 and includes a Test Result Interpretation Session held on Thursday, January 25 at 6:00pm in Room 200 at Lakota East. Please contact your School Counslor with any questions.

Parent & Student Information ​ What is Camp Enterprise? Camp Enterprise is a program conducted by the Rotary Club of Northeast Cincinnati. Through our commitment to service and youth, we have developed a three day camp experience for forty local students from ten local high schools, led by Rotarian business and community leaders, to learn about the free enterprise system through a series of workshops, team building exercises and a business plan competition.

East Latin Students Medal on National Latin Exam
04/28/2017
The results are in! Latin students at Lakota East High School participated in the National Latin Exam this past March, along with more than 149,000 Latin students from all 50 states and 16 foreign countries. The Lakota East Latin students performed well with 23 students earning gold medals and the summa cum laude award, 31 earning silver medals and the maxima cum laude award, 38 earning the magna cum laude award, and 34 earning the cum laude award. Congratulations to these hard working Lakota East Latin students!

East Artists Bring Home National Awards!

The Lakota East Art Department is pleased to announce that Lauren Wilson and Mackenzie Robinnete have earned National Silver Medals in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2017. Lauren and Mackenzie have been identified by panels of creative professionals as the most talented young artists in the nation. This year, more than 330,000 works of art and writing were submitted. Only the top 1% were recognized at the national level.

A big shout out to all the mock interview volunteers and students who participated in Mock Interview Day. All Academy students had the opportunity to interview with one of the nine mock interview volunteers. Each student received feedback about their interview as well. The interview volunteers consisted of representatives from Lakota, Addeco Staffing, Panera, Great American Cookie company, Jack-N-Box, and the Army.

CP Physics Students Showcase Their Creativity

Students in Craig Gleason's CP Physics Classes recently showcased their creativity by creating Rube Goldberg Machines. According to Wikipedia, a Rube Goldberg machine is a deliberately complex contraption in which a series of devices that perform simple tasks are linked together to produce a domino effect in which activating one device triggers the next device in the sequence.

The Lakota East Science Olympiad team recently competed in the SW Ohio Regional tournament. Congratulations to juniors Noah Grace and Tessa Cedargren, have been chosen for the Freedom Foundation Leadership Conference sponsored by the organization Spirit of America. Both students will be traveling to Valley Forge in March to learn more about American history and government as well as citizenship and leadership. They will have the opportunity to hear from prominent historians, participate in mock debates, and explore Valley Forge!

Rotary 4-Way Speech Contest

Lakota East recently swept the local try-outs for the Rotary 4-Way Speech Competition leading to all 4 finalists being represented by Thunderhawks. Congratulations to Sarah Aftab, Dante Eads, Nick Wade and Evan Yablonsky on the delivery of their outstanding speeches at the West Chester/Liberty Rotary Meeting on Friday, February 24. Dante Eads was crowned the winner and received a $300 award. Both Dante and Nick Wade have qualified for the regional finals to be held in early March at Wright State University. Good Luck to Dante and Nick. Special thanks to the West Chester/Liberty Rotary Club, Rotarian Steve Silverberg and Lakota East Speech Teacher Dave Honhart for their support of this outstanding program.

Congratulations go out to sophomore Madison Klienmann and senior Kierra Davis on being selected as two of 17 winners in the State of Ohio 2017 MLK Art, Writing, and Multimedia Contest, sponsored by the Ohio Civil Rights Commission with support from PNC, Honda of America, and Wright State University. The State of Ohio received nearly 900 remarkable entries from students attending schools throughout the state! We are thrilled to have TWO winners from East who will be honored at a ceremony in the State Office Tower in Columbus on March 2, 2017.

Special thanks to Senior Sarah Strack and her Mom, Kathy Strack for an oustanding Distracted Driving week at Lakota East. Sarah organized activities for the entire week focused on keeping our Thunderhawks safe! The most powerful moments of the week were during the student/parent presentations when Sarah and Kathy shared their personal story regarding the loss of Sarah's Uncle and Kathy's Brother to a automobile accident caused by a distracted driver. Our Thunderhawks showed their commitment to avoid distracted driving by signing the banner now hanging on Main Street.

Lakota East Computer Science students recently attended the Women in IT Conference at Xavier University. At the conference the students had the opportunity to experience presentations by the CEO of Cintrifuse and the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Cincinnati division. Both presenters are women that have built an impressive resume in Information Technology.

Hawks Drive To Stay Alive

Tooday at Lakota East, we will kick-off a critically important weeklong campaign targeting our student drivers. "Hawks Drive To Stay Alive" is spearheaded by Lakota East Senior Sarah Strack. Sarah, and her family, have faced unbelievable tragedy due to a distracted driver. It is our goal this week to help our student's understand how dangerous distracted driving can be for everyone and how they can actively work to prevent this devastation.
