Dear Parents and Guardians,

Our goal continues to be to provide more opportunities for Lakota students to personalize their learning and graduate ready for the future they envision. As a result of this work, we are excited to continue to offer more flexible scheduling options for the 2020-21 school year.

Students will have the option to take advantage of Lakota’s expanding course offerings by extending their day by one period. Students will be able to request early start schedule through zero bell.

The classes offered during zero bell will be determined by student demand and district resources.

Please consider these important guidelines when selecting your course and schedule preferences under this new schedule:

  • All students can choose alternate courses, should their first choice not be available.
  • Seniors will have the option to select Senior Flex when registering. If you wish to enroll in a Senior Flex schedule, you must select all class periods you do not wish to take a class. For example, if you wish to have Senior Flex for bells one through three, you must select Senior Flex 1, Senior Flex 2 and Senior Flex 3. This would mean that you wish for your first class to begin with bell four (4).
  • Block days will still be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays for bells one through six. Zero bell will be held Monday through Friday.

In addition to giving our students more flexibility to try new courses, or even make room in their daily schedule for non-traditional learning experiences like internships, this also gives us a strong foundation for offering more course options down the road and more personalized, real-world learning experiences for our students.

More detailed information about how students will schedule their classes will be communicated as we approach registration season. In the meantime, I encourage you to review our High School Program of Study with your child in preparation for 2020-21 scheduling.

Sincerely,

Principal
