Every year, the District Parent Council helps the school district honor its most dedicated volunteers as recipients of the esteemed Barb Bossu Volunteer Spirit Award.
Honoring a volunteer at the district level and from each of Lakota’s 22 schools, the award commemorates a former parent-volunteer and Union Elementary PTA president, Barb Bossu.
The award was established in 1990 to commemorate Barb’s very special dedication to public education. The DPC determines the district winner and each building determines its own school recipient, as nominated by members of the school community. All honorees are recognized at a district-wide ceremony near the end of the school year.
Nominations for 2023 have ended.
2023's ceremony will be held on April 26, at 9:30 AM, at Lakota East HS. Reception precedes event.

Lakota East PTSO hosts three Future Hawk Nights during the school year. During these events, the Thunderhawk spirit is promoted by giving away Future Hawk items at the gate/door.
Future Hawk Nights are a great way to gather all of our future Lakota East Thunderhawks from our feeder early childhood and elementary schools to sporting events and show them our tremendous high school spirit, community, and fun. The games help instill a sense of school pride among our primary school community!
The Lakota East PTSO Craft Show is our biggest fundraiser of the year. This juried event features over 200 artisans from around the tri-state. You can find everything from pottery and painting to soaps and souvenirs.
Our valuable volunteer corps helps to plan and run the show. It's also a great opportunity for our students to earn service hours!
Each year, the PTSO sponsors the Senior Picnic. The event is held on or near the last official day seniors must report for class. We take great joy in celebrating our seniors and their accomplishments throughout their time at Lakota East.
Food, a DJ, Kona Ice truck, raffles, inflatables, and much more are generally featured! (Inflatables generously loaned for the event by Lakota Hills Baptist.)
LEHS PTSO values the daily contributions and impact of our teachers in the lives of our students. We strive to show our appreciation through conference dinners and our annual Staff Appreciation Week in the Spring. If you would like to contribute your time, talent or treasure to making these events successful, please reach out !
